Terms of Service

The ground rules for splitting a bill with Tablesplitter.

01Description of the service

Tablesplitter is a tool for dividing a shared bill among the people at a table. One person photographs the receipt, the service reads the lines and prices, and everyone picks what they had via a link or table code. The service calculates each person's share. Using the service does not require creating an account.

02Provider's rights and obligations

The service is generally available around the clock, but we reserve the right to take the service or any part of it temporarily offline for maintenance, updates, system load, or other necessary reasons. We do not guarantee error-free or uninterrupted operation.

We may change the content, structure, appearance, features, and functionality of the service, or stop offering the service altogether or in part. We aim to notify users of material changes in advance through the service.

We have the right to remove content from the service at any time if it is unlawful, inappropriate, inaccurate, misleading, harmful, or damaging to us, users, or third parties. We are not obligated to notify anyone before or after removing content.

03User's rights and obligations

You receive a personal right to use the service in accordance with these terms. You agree to use the service lawfully, in good faith, and in compliance with these terms.

In particular, you agree to: upload only receipts and similar bill documents that you have the right to share; provide accurate information; not use the service for unlawful, offensive, discriminatory, harassing, pornographic, violent, hateful, fraudulent, or otherwise inappropriate purposes; not use the service for spam, advertising, or scams; not attempt to disrupt the service, bypass technical limits, or access other people's bills without their code; and not use the service with bots, scrapers, or other automated tools without our prior written consent.

You are responsible under Finnish law for any material you publish and for all direct and indirect costs arising from your use of the service.

04User content and moderation

You can upload receipt photos and enter bill data, names, and payment information ('user content'). User content is used to create and display the split to the people who have the table code or link. We have no obligation to publish any particular content.

We use automated tools and human review to prevent clearly unlawful or inappropriate content from being uploaded. We may also remove content automatically if it receives enough reports from other users. We reserve the right to edit, hide, or remove any user content at our discretion without prior notice, and in serious cases to block access to the service.

You can remove your own split data from the same device and browser you used to create it, because we recognise your device through its stored identifier. If you have cleared that data or changed devices, you can request removal through the contact form.

05License to user content

By uploading content, you confirm that you have the necessary rights to it and that publishing it does not infringe the rights of third parties.

You grant Tablesplitter a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable right to use, store, copy, modify, display, distribute, and promote your user content within the service and in marketing related to the service. This license continues after removal to the extent necessary for technical operation, backups, legal obligations, or establishing, exercising, or defending legal claims.

06Third-party services and payments

Tablesplitter is not a payment service. No money moves through the service, and we are not a party to any payment between you and the other people at the table. Any payment happens directly between you, using whatever method the host has shared.

The amounts shown are calculations based on what people at the table selected. It is your responsibility to check that the split matches the actual bill before paying.

The service may contain links to third-party websites or services. Those services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their content, operation, or suitability for you.

07Intellectual property

Tablesplitter or its licensors own all rights to the service, its structure, software, design, trademarks, and other materials, excluding user content. You have the right to use the service only in accordance with these terms. Copying, republishing, scraping, or otherwise exploiting the service or its content for commercial purposes without our prior written consent is prohibited.

08Pricing

The service is free for users. We reserve the right to introduce paid features in the future, in which case their prices and terms will be announced separately.

09Restriction and termination of use

If you violate these terms, applicable law, or good practice, or if we have reasonable grounds to suspect such a violation, we have the right without prior warning to: remove your content from the service; block or restrict your access to the service using technical means such as device identifiers; and close any administrator account you may have.

10Limitation of liability

The service and its content are provided 'as is' without warranties or representations. You use the service at your own risk.

We do not guarantee that discount codes, prices, or bill details shown in the service are accurate, valid, or up to date. Much of the data is derived from receipts uploaded by users, and details may change without notice. Responsibility for payment decisions and final terms always lies with you and the relevant merchant or person you are paying.

Unless required by mandatory law, we are not liable for any direct or indirect damages, lost savings, or disputes between the people splitting a bill arising from the use of the service, service interruptions, errors, omissions, or information available through the service.

You are obligated to compensate us and third parties for any damage caused by your unlawful, improper, or otherwise prohibited use of the service.

11Force majeure

We are not liable for damages caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, such as network failures, disruptions in third-party services, cyber attacks, natural events, or official orders.

12Privacy and cookies

We process personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable privacy laws. The service uses browser local storage and similar technologies as described in the Privacy Policy.

13Changes to the terms

We may change these terms, especially when the service changes, legal or regulatory requirements change, or unforeseen circumstances arise. We aim to notify users of material changes in the service before they take effect. By continuing to use the service after changes take effect, you accept the updated terms.

14Governing law and dispute resolution

These terms are governed by Finnish law, excluding its conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes between us and users are primarily resolved through negotiation. Disputes are settled in the general courts of Finland.

If you are a consumer, you always have the right to bring the matter before the Consumer Disputes Board. Before taking the matter to the Consumer Disputes Board, we recommend contacting consumer counselling.
